Harry Baker began teaching the guitar to a friend at the age of 13, passing on what was being taught to him. Now at age 22 with over 8 years of performing, writing and teaching experience, this service is now international. Offering lessons to anyone in the world via the net, Harry has found ways to communicate through self-designed online resources, exercises and practice routines.

"Over the past months I have been taking online lessons with Fret-Net; and I believe that my progress has gone through the roof in no time. Harry is a motivated and passionate tutor, and will do everything to help you understand. He will help you progress in your own home and I really recommend his teaching" - Student in Monaco

My daughter and I have been receiving online lessons through Harry since the lockdown and it's been great to sit down each week and continue learning songs, would highly recommend! - Family in London

Karan really enjoys his Guitar lessons. My son is 8 years old and his Guitar teacher Harry is a great tutor. Harry is very involved, encouraging, patient and a great tutor. With the lock-down Harry helped us to continue the sessions through Skype calls, he has been very flexible with hours, last minute changes & timings etc. I can see great progress in Karan. He always looks forward to his classes with Harry! - Student Parent in London

Currently doing my grade 4 with Harry and it's been really helpful over Zoom. It feels almost exactly like playing in person and I always look forward to get my rock on during these sessions! - Student in Surrey

Start your journey now!

Starting a new skill can be daunting, nerve-racking and a challenge, and we're here to guide you and ensure that every second you engage with your new journey, is a liberating and enjoyable experience. We have to start somewhere. Many people say that success doesn't happen over night, but who decides that? Who decides what success is to you? -Posture

-The parts of the guitar, why they're important, and a brief history of acoustic and electric guitars and how they work

-How to read basic tablature, notation, and chord diagrams (We're easy, if you don't want to dabble too much in classical notation, we won't force this, but it's useful!)

-Basic scales such as major, minor and pentatonic

-Some cheesy classics

-Basics of notes on the fretboard

-The 5 golden FretNet rules (thumb to the sky, anchored pinky, the picking and strumming rule, the rule of fingering and alternate picking)

Now we're talking...

Guitar Lesson

So you've learnt a handful of songs, you can recognise chord diagrams, read basic tab, and you've started to build up strength in your fingers, wrist and forearm. You want to advance into more complicated projects, perhaps start to learn some guitar solos, or more complicated finger style techniques. Maybe you're starting to get into sound more, and you're looking into other guitars, pedals and amplifiers, we got you!! (Sorry Mum, the collection only gets bigger!)

Though the lines are blurred between beginner, intermediate and advanced, we use these terms to assist you in locating your own standard, so you can tell us what you want to work on. You may be an advanced sight reader, but your improvising skills may only be beginner, so we actually don't really believe in these terms! Rather, you should use them to work out what you need to work on! In these sessions we will explore things like:

-The beginning stages of guitar solos

-The pentatonic shapes and all keys

-Extended chords such as maj7, maj9, dom7, augmented, diminished etc

-The harmony behind these extensions and how to apply them in a jamming scenario, and also how to jam!

-How to listen to music actively and engage with basic aspects of "mix"

-Various guitar techniques such as string bending, sliding, hammer ons, pull offs and other ornaments.

-More experimental aspects of guitar such as feedback, using the tremolo (like Beck), using the right hand to play on the neck

-More in depth fretboard awareness in regards to pitches and harmonics

-Rockschool grades 3-6

Songwriting / Performing

Looking to write some songs, play some Open Mics and perform?

Writing Music

So, learning to play is one thing, but performing and writing your own original music is another. In our songwriting sessions, you need to be able to play at least three chords comfortably with a minimum of two different strumming pattern and we can take you from there. We will show you new chord progressions and rhythms and how to apply them. We will take you through harmonising each key, so you know what chords to play in certain keys. Not only that, but we will introduce various songwriting tricks that make use of modal interchange; things we can learn from existing works in the field form artists like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Prince, the list goes on...

What else will we help you with you may ask?

-Of course this includes guitar tuition within the songwriting session

-Understanding Harmony

-Analysing lyrics, poetry and literature to help form unique and beautiful lyrics that make you stand out

-How to perform! What not to say to an audience ie never apologise for anything...

-Body language, attitude, etiquette, dealing with feedback

-Use of the microphone and the basics of vocal tuition.

-How to jam, and become your own tutor.

-Understanding vocal tone

-Help you understand that sometimes, less is more in regards to lyrics and harmony.

Take a listen to some of the music we've put together over the years.

Need a hand with production, we can introduce you to Logic, teach you how production works and offer our services providing guitar, synths, beats, vocals or even a mix for you. Got that down already and fancy a collab? Absolutely!

Producing music is a vast world, everyone has their own way of doing it. If you like the sounds you hear within our existing music, we can for sure help you out in many ways. Looking to develop your own production niche? We can set you off on your journey by showing you the ropes of Logic Pro X. We can cover the basics of compression, gating, side-chaining, how to apply effects in unique ways, arranging / structures, using different microphones, setting up your home studio, monitoring, sampling, beats and other various tricks. We can also assist you in creating professional YouTube videos and looking after audio for other means such as videos, movies and presentations, with high quality audio!

How It Works

It's kind of up to you! We are very flexible in regards to how we operate. Lessons have taken place on Skype, Whereby, Zoom, Facetime, Houseparty and more. The best platforms have been Skype and Zoom, these apps let you share screens, and though we can get work done without - this is more ideal to see our large range of resources. When we talk you through a song, for example "Three Little Birds" by the famous reggae legend Bob Marley, it'll be useful to see not just how reggae rhythms are written, but how tablature and musical ornaments work.
